Hysteroscopy is a procedure used to inspect the uterine cavity by endoscopy with access through the cervix. It allows for diagnosis of intrauterine pathology and serves as method surgical intervention.
HYSTEROSCOPY IMPROVE PREGNANCY RATE
Nowadays, Hysteroscopy is useful for infertile treatment by considering these following uterine conditions ;
- Abnormal uterine bleeding
- Endometrial polyp, Intraurine Adhesion, Myomectomy for uterine fibroids
- Endometrial Hyperplasia
- Recurrent Implantation Failure
HYSTEROSCOPY PREPARATION
- Hysteroscopy is suggested to be done 5-7 days after menstrual period finish
- Hysteroscopy should not be attempted if a woman is pregnant
- Abstaining from foods and drinks at least 8 hours before the treatment
HYSTEROSCOPY PROCEDURE
- After a general anesthesia is given, Hysteroscopy, which is a narrow telescope with camera, is passed into the womb through the vagina and cervix
- The camera sends pictures to a monitor so your doctor can spot and/or treat any abnormalities
- If the doctor find any conditions or intrauterine pathology, Hysteroscopy can be either diagnostic or operative.
- A hysteroscopy can take up to 30 minutes in total, although it may only last around 5-10 minutes if it’s just being done to diagnose a condition or investigate symptoms.
Risks of a hysteroscopy
A hysteroscopy is generally very safe, but like any procedure there is a small risk of complications. Generally, the patient may experience some discomfort similar to period cramps and some may experience excessive bleeding, infection. Abstaining from intercourse for 3-5 days after the treatment.
