ANTI- MÜLLERIAN HORMONE (AMH)

Anti-Mullerian Hormone, or AMH, is a hormone produced from the ovaries, indicating the performance of the ovaries, and at the same time can be used to predict the number of egg that person can produce.

In general, AMH level is gradually decrease when the women get older. However, the level of AMH level is a personal factor. In other words, among some younger age, AMH level may be in low level like premature ovarian failure. Also, some women aged 35 years or more, can experience satisfactory level of AMH like younger age group

For those who are planning to undergo infertility treatment, doctor will advise to female patient to check AMH hormone before starting treatment. Benefit of AMH can be used for;

• Treatment plan:  Number of egg is one factor that doctor will use for treatment plan, such as medicine use, dosage of medicine and protocol of treatment.

• Assesses the chance of getting the embryo: Number of egg is used to predict the number of embryos that the patient will receive after the fertilization process.

• Used to assess the risk of Ovarian Hyper Stimulation Syndrome (OHSS) :  For female patient who found high level of AMH, may assume for a large number of egg and may risk for Ovarian Hyper Stimulation Syndrome from ovarian stimulation process.  Doctor will give suggestion to prevent OHSS from the beginning of the treatment process.

Which day in Menstruation cycle that I should check for AMH?

AMH hormone test can be done by blood test at any day of cycle, not depend on menstruation. Also, no need to empty stomach for the test.

  • 2.2 ng/ml – 4.0 ng/ml         Satisfactory Fertility
  • 0.3 ng/ml – 2.2 ng/ml         Low Fertility
  • 0.0 ng/ml – 0.3 ng/ml        Very Low Fertility
  • > 6.8 ng/ml                           High Level
